The Journey...
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Durand Capers now resides in the Greater Tampa Bay area, where he leads Tactical Education & Defense, LLC, a training company built on the belief that true protection begins with education.

Durand’s journey began in 2020 after taking a Florida Concealed Carry course and realizing the clear gap between licensing requirements and real-world preparedness. What started as frustration turned into purpose. Recognizing that insufficient instruction placed responsible gun owners, African Americans, and minorities at greater risk, he committed to creating holistic, high-quality training that prepares citizens for the worst day of their lives.

Today, Durand is a USCCA Training Counselor, Rangemaster Certified Instructor, and holds multiple instructor credentials through the USCCA, NRA, American Heart Association and Armament Systems and Procedures. He is also a Stop the Bleed Instructor, NRA Chief Range Safety Officer, and Florida Security D, DI, and G License holder, fully insured under Delta Shield. His teaching spans firearms, medical response, safety, and security disciplines. All are designed to build confidence, competence, and community.

Durand is an active member of the Black Brass Gun Club (BBGC) and the National African American Gun Association (NAAGA). Through Tactical Education & Defense, he has trained hundreds of students, families, and professionals, empowering them to take responsibility for their own safety and readiness.

Beyond the range, Durand brings over a decade of experience in education, business analysis, and data-driven leadership. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology and a Master of Education from Wright State University, as well as an MBA in Data Analytics from Saint Leo University. His mission is to reinforce responsible gun ownership, promote safety education, and prepare defensive-minded citizens and first responders to make a positive difference in their communities and country.
